Red Wattle-Tamworth Hereford New Arrivals

We have been raising pigs for 4-5 years, not just your normal pigs though.  Four years ago we went on a journey from Ohio to Missouri to buy a 8 week old piglet, a male, for $250.  Wow, I still can not believe he talked me into that!  We bought a Red Wattle pig, a heritage breed once endangered, he is all red and has the neatest wattles hanging from his neck!  Just a month prior to getting "Dizzy"(our male pig named after my dad), we had bought to Tamworth sows(moms) that were bred to a Hereford male.  Two months after the addition of Dizzy to our pig barn we had piglets from our Sows.  It was with these sows and Dizzy we would build our pig population.

We have had many, many litters of piglets over the years.  These litters of piglets were all raised on pasture, never gave birth in a gestation crate, and were fed an all natural diet designed by my husband. Our pigs have a unique flavor, a good flavor, that makes you think is the meat I buy at the store really pork when compared to ours!  Since our move to Tennessee we had 1 litter of piglets in early winter, but in the last week we have had two litters of piglets.  I wanted to share a couple pictures of them getting some sun.  If you have any interest in the learning more about heritage breeds or the one of the so called slow food hogs please just give me shout!
